FBI Says More Than 1 May Have Murdered WLS Producer Last Year, Offers Reward

A little more than a year after WLS online executive producer Anne Swaney died while on vacation in Belize, The FBI says it thinks more than one person may have been involved in her murder.

Swaney was found in the water after disappearing from a yoga deck near a local river in western Belize. She was found the next day. An autopsy determined she had been strangled.

“Over the past year, we’ve been actively involved with them every step of the way and they’ve been welcoming to that and they hope, just as much as we do, that we can catch these subject or subjects,” FBI Special Agent Paul Clark told the Chicago ABC-owned station. “BNP want to find this person or persons just as much as we do.”

“We believe that people, the public in Belize, may have information about the suspect or suspects that committed this crime,” said Clark.

The bureau has offered a $10,000 reward for information about Swaney’s murder, along with opening a number in Belize for tipsters to call because of their belief someone in the country knows what happened.

“We want to reassure the family, as well, that we are doing everything in our power to bring closure to this case,” Martinez said. “I’m hopeful that we will solve it, it’s very important to this country.”
