Erie Station Debuts 7 P.M. Newscast Tonight

By Kevin Eck

Starting tonight, viewers of WICU, the NBC affiliate for Erie, Pa. will be able to watch a 7 p.m. newscast.

The station says it’s the only 7 p.m. newscast in the market and that part of the reason for the newscast is that research shows “there is an appetite for a local news option at 7 PM.”

The 7 p.m. will be anchored by Amanda Post, Mike Ruzzi and meteorologist Geoff Cornish.

“Congratulations! This is HUGE for the Market! The last time there was a 7pm newscast was in 1992 – when then “NewsCenter12″ was at 7 & 11pm … then in September of that year they switched to 6 and 11pm,” a viewer wrote on Facebook.
