Emmy Win ‘Bittersweet’ for Laid-Off Minneapolis Anchor

A “bittersweet night” is how Jeanette Trompeter describes her experience at Saturday’s Upper Midwest Emmy Awards where she snagged the award for best anchor, tying with KARE‘s Kim Insley. Trompeter won thanks to her anchor duties at WCCO-TV, Channel 4–the station that laid her off in March.

“I was surprised to be nominated and even more surprised to win,” said Trompeter, who won an Emmy in the same category last year. “And Kim was incredibly gracious, giving me kudos during her speech.”

Trompeter says at first she had no intentions of going to the event.

“I thought it would be weird or kind of sad,” she said. ” And then some friends encouraged me to go. The more I thought about it, I thought it would be a good opportunity to see everybody again in one place.” More…
