Emmy Rundown: Lower Great Lakes Region

By Andrew Gauthier

Cleveland’s WEWS was the big winner at the 2011 Lower Great Lakes Emmys this week, bringing home 10 awards including wins in the Evening Newscast and Morning/Daytime Newscast categories.

Also recognized for their evening newscasts were Indianapolis’s WTHR (for Markets 21-40) and Fort Wayne’s WANE and Toledo’s WTVG (both for Market 41+).

Scott Bremner (right), managing editor for WICU-WSEE, became the first person from the Erie market to win an Emmy. He nabbed a statuette for his Commentary/Editorial Writing category for his weekly “Thoughts from Under the Hat” segment, which airs Fridays during WSEE’s 6 p.m. newscast.
