Electrical Accident Knocks WKMG Newscast Off Air

WKMG aired Rachael Ray instead of its 4 p.m. newscast today after an electrical accident killed power to its newsroom.

“Duke Energy said a semi truck at Carder Road near All American Boulevard was too tall and snagged a power line,” WKMG news director Allison McGinley told Orlando Sentinel writer Hal Boedeker. “It happened at 2:40, and the newsroom went dark.”

The Graham Media Group-owned Orlando CBS affiliate reports Duke Energy is saying 847 people were affected by the outage.

“Computers shut down, and the station’s generator kicked in, but the hit was so bad that it took all the automated systems time to come back,” said McGinley.

The station was back with its 5 p.m. newscast.
