Ed Ansin: NBC Is ‘Trying to Steal Our Station’

By Mark Joyella

In his first interview since reports surfaced that NBC would end its affiliation with Boston station WHDH and move it to an NBC-owned station, WHDH owner Ed Ansin accused NBC of “trying to steal our station.”

Ansin told the Boston Globe NBC intends to move its programming to the NBC-owned WNEU, which currently carries Telemundo programming. Ansin says a new local news operation would be based at New England Cable News, which, like NBC, is owned by Comcast.

“It seems that every article I read refers to the fact there is bad blood between our company and NBC,” said Ansin, who believes WHDH will retain its NBC affiliation. “That is very far from the truth…No network has elected to give up such a strong station and go to a startup station.”
