The DUI charge against WRDW multimedia journalist Chad Mills has been dismissed, according to the station.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s department told WRDW that the arresting deputy made a mistake in charging Mills with DUI. The charges against the multimedia journalist, who was arrested early Sunday morning, have been reduced to a minor traffic violation of “driving left of center and failing to maintain a lane.”
In addition to reporting the news of Mills’ arrest over the weekend, the Augusta CBS-affiliate has reported on the dismissal of the DUI charge.
“Any other time, a reporter or likely anyone being arrested for a minor traffic offense would not be news,” news director Estelle Parsley said in a statement. “However we wanted to set the record straight with our report and in the process work to clear Chad’s name.”
