Dish Reaches Deal to Keep The Weather Channel

Dish Network will keep The Weather Channel in its lineup, the satellite TV company said Monday, backing off on threats to launch its own weather-related programing.

Dish said it will also be working with The Weather Channel Cos., which is based in Atlanta, to provide new localized forecasting services designed specifically for satellite customers.

Pay TV providers periodically renegotiate the fees that they pay to run programming such as The Weather Channel. In most cases those fees go up every few years. And satellite and cable companies sometimes threaten to pull channels to gain leverage during talks. More…
