Controversy Surrounds Murder Suspect’s Televised Surrender

Controversy has surrounded the actions of a homicide detective during Wednesdays televised arrest of murder suspect Riccardo M. McCray.

After getting word that McCray had surrendered at WIVB-TV studios on Elmwood Avenue, police officers entered a conference room to take him into custody.

A TV cameraman caught Buffalo Homicide Detective Sgt. James P. Lonergan grabbing community leader Darnell Jackson by the jacket and shoving him aside to get to McCray. Jackson had arranged for McCray to surrender at the TV station. More…
