Columbus Stations in Rolling Coverage of Ohio State Active Shooter

Reports of an active shooter on the campus of Ohio State University have Columbus stations in rolling breaking news coverage Monday morning.

Stations report nine people have been transported to hospitals for treatment, and police say one suspect is dead. CBS affiliate WBNS also reported two people appeared to have been removed from a building on the OSU campus in handcuffs.

Screen Shot 2016-11-28 at 11.13.27 AMWitnesses told NBC affiliate WCMH a car hit several people in an incident that may be connected to the reports of a shooting. Initial police reports described a car crashing into a campus building.

A photograph aired by ABC affiliate WSYX showed Columbus Police bomb squad officers examining a backpack on campus as well. An active shooter alert was issued by the university around 10 a.m. local time, advising students to shelter in place:

UPDATE, 1:55 p.m. ET: NPR reports there was no shooting at OSU, despite witnesses telling reporters they heard what sounded like gunshots. The suspect, shot and killed by police, is believed to have driven a car through campus, striking several people. He then exited the car and attacked victims with a knife. Nine people were injured, one critically.
