CNN Correspondent Lisa Sylvester Joins WPXI

After nine years at CNN, Lisa Sylvester is joining WPXI, Cox Media’s NBC affiliate in Pittsburgh.

Sylvester officially joins the station in October. She will co-anchor the 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts, as well as the 10 p.m. newscast on Pittsburgh Fox affiliate WPGH, alongside David Johnson. She replaces Darieth Chisolm, who is leaving the station to spend more time with her family.

“We’re lucky to find such a perfect fit for our newsroom,” WPXI news director Mike Oliveira said. “Lisa is not only a great journalist, but a great person. I know she’s ready to work hard and invest in this station and this city. I know our viewers will recognize and appreciate that.”

At CNN, Sylvester was the cut-in anchor and correspondent for “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.” Before that, she worked at ABC News. More from WPXI after the jump.

PITTSBURGH – August 30, 2013 – WPXI-TV is adding Lisa Sylvester to the Channel 11 News Team. The announcement was made Friday by News Director Mike Oliveira. Sylvester will join co-anchor David Johnson for Channel 11 News at 6 p.m., Channel 11 News on Fox 53 and 11 at 11 beginning in October.

Sylvester comes to Pittsburgh from CNN, where she had been an anchor since 2004. Before that, she served as a correspondent for ABC.

“We’re lucky to find such a perfect fit for our newsroom,” Oliveira said. “Lisa is not only a great journalist, but a great person. I know she’s ready to work hard and invest in this station and this city. I know our viewers will recognize and appreciate that.”

“I am thrilled to be joining WPXI,” Sylvester said. “This is a wonderful opportunity to join a team that is dedicated to providing the best news coverage. I look forward to raising my family in Pittsburgh and being part of the community.”

Sylvester has earned multiple awards in her career, including a Business Emmy for a series about American jobs being sent overseas. She also played key roles in efforts that won CNN a Peabody Award and an Emmy award for coverage of the September 11th attacks. Sylvester holds a degree in international economics from Georgetown University and a master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
