Clock Ticking On Retrans Contract Between Verizon, Media General

By Merrill Knox

Two Media General-owned local stations are warning viewers “it appears unlikely” that a new retransmission agreement will be reached with Verizon FiOS before the January 1 deadline.

The stations affected are WJAR, the NBC-affiliate in Providence, and WFLA, the NBC-affiliate in Tampa-St. Petersburg.

“Our highly-rated television station is an important asset to our local community and it is unfortunate that Verizon FiOs does not recognize our fair market value,” WJAR general manager Vic Vetters said in a statement.
