Chuck Howard Makes Return to Charlotte Local TV

By Kevin Eck

Chuck Howard is back at a local station in Charlotte, N.C.

Howard joins Fox-owned WJZY as sports director, replacing Anthony Flores who left last month.

The Charlotte Observer reports Howard says he’s been humbled after being fired from WCNC, ten years ago after 13 years there.

“It humbled me and humbles me to this day,” said Howard. “I realized how much I loved working in television.”

Since then he’s worked in sports covering NASCAR and the local NFL team.

“As the top sports personality in Charlotte for the last 20 years, Chuck has cultivated extensive relationships with both viewers and sports teams,” said vp and GM Kieran Clarke. “Pairing his unique storytelling abilities and visibility in Charlotte, with Fox46’s commitment to sports will be a winning combination.”

“I very much look forward to taking advantage once again of my 20+ years of experience here in the Charlotte region sports market,” Howard wrote on Facebook. “In the media landscape these days opportunities like the one that has been presented to me don’t come around often so I am thrilled to get back on the saddle once again.”

From The Observer:

Fox46 is in a rebuilding phase under its third news director, Tina Luque, after a disastrous, low-rated launch of its news department in 2014.

In addition to a deep network of contacts, Howard brings local recognition to the position and marks the second addition at Channel 46 of high-profile personalities known to Charlotte viewers after the hiring of former WCCB (Channel 18) anchor Brien Blakely in January.

Howard starts at 10 a.m. Sunday on Fox46’s pre-game Panthers show and will appear on the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts.
