Cheryl Jennings Leaving Anchor Desk at KGO

Cheryl Jennings is leaving the anchor desk at San Francisco ABC-owned station KGO. Jennings has worked at the station since 1979.

“After three decades of anchoring ABC7 News at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., I’ve decided at this point in my career, that I want to remain a part of this great news organization and pursue more of my long form in-depth stories and some outside projects,” Jennings wrote on her Facebook page. “So, I want you to know I’ve decided to step away from the anchor desk to devote even more time and energy to covering the stories, the people and issues that matter to so many people throughout the Bay Area.”

In a memo obtained by TVSpy, KGO gm Bill Burton said Jennings approached him, along with news director Tracey Watkowski and asked to spend “more time traveling while working on important projects around the world.” Burton said the two asked her to stay on at KGO.
