CBS Television Stations Pick Up ‘The Queen Latifah Show’

CBS has signed the “Queen Latifah Show” to air on all of its 16 CBS owned and operated stations beginning in 2013, according to Deadline.com.

Deadline reported competition was said to be fierce among networks vying for the daytime show executive produced by Queen Latifah, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith among others.

Shortly after the dust settled on this fall’s syndicated daytime talk show launches that failed to produce a breakout hit, Sony TV began conversations with station groups about the Queen Latifah talker, garnering interest from multiples places. I hear negotiations went down to the wire with the CBS and NBC station groups.

The pickup of the Sony Pictures Television show is a rare acquisition for CBS which normally airs programming produced by its own distribution arm like “Judge Judy”, “Dr. Phil”, “Racheal Ray” and “The Doctors”.

The “Queen Latifah Show” which has a countdown to air on its website, is expected to showcase Latifah’s singing and comedic talents along with celebrity interviews and human interest stories.  This is the second attempt at a daytime talk show for Latifah who launched a version in 1999 that was produced by Telepictures and ran for two years.
