Following the Minneapolis CBS owned station’s lead, KCNC in Denver, KYW in Philadelphia and WCBS in New York have begun looking for “Weather Watchers” to add to the station’s weather team.

“We’ve been thrilled to discover how many of our viewers have sophisticated equipment at home from anemometers and hygrometers, for wind and humidity, to rain gauges,” KYW chief meteorologist Kathy Orr said in a press release.

“Our weather watchers are your neighbors,” reads the KCNC website. “They tell us how much snow fell, or how temperatures are changing. They share pictures and video of cool weather events. They can even send a direct alert to the team in Colorado’s Weather Center.”

The point, according to station, is to use all the information to deliver the best forecast available.

KYW said its meteorologists will host workshops to give the weather watchers training, talk about climate and meteorology.
