Carol Erickson Leaves KYW

By Kevin Eck

Longtime KYW meteorologist Carol Erickson has left the Philadelphia CBS-owned station.

“After being offered another contract with CBS3 today – that included another year of winter weather coverage! – I have decided instead to focus my time on what means the most to me – animal welfare,” Erickson wrote on her facebook page. “I love CBS3, where I have been since 1978, and thank them for everything! My pet advocacy will continue, and let’s all help CBS3 move the ball forward for a region that is kind to animals and one another.”

She initially started at KYW in 1978 and left in 1984, coming back in 1991. She started her career at KOLD in Tucson, Ariz. and later worked at WFAA in Dallas, Texas.

Erickson’s departure comes one day after Kathy Orr, Chris May and Beasley Reece were let go. KYW got a new gm in April when Brien Kennedy came over from sister station WCCO in Minneapolis. News director Susan Schiller left in June.

Ukee Washington will move from mornings to nightside to replace May. He’ll join Jessica Dean on the 5:00, 6:00, 10:00 and 11:00 p.m. newscasts starting July 13. Kate Bilo — who was filling for Orr — will stay on the night shows. Katie Fehlinger will replace Bilo at Noon. No replacement has been named yet for Reece.
