Car Crashes into Jacksonville Director’s House

By Kevin Eck

Ike Levitan, one of WJXT‘s newscast directors, got a rude surprise on Sunday morning.

According to the Jacksonville independent station, a car drove into his house and then took off.  The weird part? No one heard the car crash into his home.

Levitan said he only found out about the wreck when a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officer knocked on his door and told him to come outside. Levitan said the neighbor eventually saw the damage and called police.

Levitan said the car went directly between his home’s water intake valve and the electric box. If it had just been a few feet in the other direction it could have hit the window that leads directly into the kitchen.

“It’s probably going to be a couple thousand (dollars),” Levitan said. “All I wanted to do was paint the house — that was the next adventure. Now I have to fix the house.”

Levitan said he noticed red paint left over, along with some pieces of the car, including a fog light.

News4Jax Crime and Safety Analyst Gil Smith said if there is a red car in that neighborhood that you haven’t seen in a while, to contact police to check it out.

Anyone with any information about the crash is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, or you can call Crime Stoppers 866-845-TIPS.
