WXII anchor Cameron Kent is retiring from the Winston-Salem, N.C. ABC affiliate in 2017.

Kent first started working at WXII in 1979 as a beat reporter and promoted to sports director in 1981. Seven years later, he left to work as a screenwriter in Los Angeles before coming back to WXII in 1994.

“Cameron exemplifies the highest professional standards both on-air and behind the scenes. He takes great pride in his work and is an inspiring leader to everyone in the newsroom,” said WXII news director Lisa Fulk. “We have all benefited from his mentoring and journalistic integrity, but more importantly, we have witnessed first-hand a humble man who always shows compassion to his co-workers, family, and his community. Cameron is a class act, and we’ve been blessed to have him.”
