California Governor Vetoes Drone Bill

By Kevin Eck

Saying a proposed bill restricting drone flights over private property “could expose the occasional hobbyist and the FAA-approved commercial user alike to burdensome litigation,” California Gov. Jerry Brown vetoed California Senate Bill 142 last week.

The bill was opposed by the National Press Photographer’s Association which wrote the Governor asking for the veto.

“Drone technology certainly raises novel issues that merit careful examination,” said Brown. “This bill, however, while well-intentioned, could expose the occasional hobbyist and the FAA-approved commercial user alike to burdensome litigation and new causes of action.”
