Buffalo Station Sees Changes in Sports Department

Buffalo ABC affiliate WKBW is making changes in its sports department.

Primary sports anchor Shawn Stepner is leaving the station after his contract expires at the end of August. He’s worked at the station since December 2007.

WKBW confirms the report in The Buffalo News that Stepner “decided against renewing his contract and plans to move to Maryland ‘for family concerns.'”

Stepner’s departure means Joe Buscaglia will replace Stepner as sports director.

“Joe has done an outstanding job as Bills beat reporter on air and on digital platforms,” vp & GM Michael Nurse told the Buffalo News. “He is ideally suited to delivering compelling sports stories, analysis and driving our sports department forward.”

To replace Buscaglia, WKBW moved Matt Bove from morning news reporter to sports reporter.

Nick Filipowski stays on as weekend sports anchor.
