Abby Fridmann, a native of Buffalo, N.Y., is heading back home to become the new weekend morning anchor at WIVB.

Fridmann joins from WFFF, the Nexstar station in Burlington, Vt., where she was a morning anchor and reporter.

She’ll replace Shannon Smith, who had been at WIVB for three years before she left in August for a job in Cleveland.

This is only Fridmann’s second job in the business, but it marks a quick return to Western New York, where the journalist has spent most of her life. After growing up in Buffalo, she graduated from the State University of New York’s College at Brockport, majoring in journalism and broadcasting, and then got her master’s degree from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

While finishing her advanced degree, Fridmann worked as a Capitol Hill reporter for Salt Lake City station KTVX.
