Brenda Wood to Retire from WXIA

By Kevin Eck

WXIA anchor Brenda Wood is retiring from the Atlanta NBC affiliate in February.

“I chose February because it will mark 20 years at 11Alive, and 40 years for me in the television news business. 40 years!,” said Wood. “It’s time. As in, time for a change.”

Wood says she’s leaving to pursue her lifelong dream “to develop, produce and give creative voice to new and meaningful artistic projects outside of news.”

She started her career in 1977 at WAAY in Huntsville, Ala. She left in 1978 to be a reporter at WSM in Nashville, but went back to WAAY a few months later to be the 6 and 10 p.m. anchor. Before moving to Atlanta to work at WAGA in 1988, she worked at WMC in Memphis and joined WXIA in 1997.
