Kingsley Smith began his tenure as KTTV news director with a big announcement. On his first day with the station this week, Smith announced that the Fox O&O would be launching a 5 p.m. newscast in the fall.
Earlier this month, KTTV announced that Smith, who had spent the last three and a half years leading the newsroom at Fox’s WTXF, would be replacing Jose Rios as news director.
A Fox spokesperson tells TVSpy that the new 5 p.m. newscast, which will move into the time slot currently held by “Dr. Oz” when that show leaves for KABC, has been in the works for a bit now but that Smith is making it a top priority.
The 1-hour newscast is set to make its debut on September 12th and will follow Anderson Cooper’s new syndicated show in the lineup. The station is still working out who will appear at the anchor desk.
