Longtime Boston reporter, Rhondella Richardson, is being promoted to the WCVB anchor desk.

Richardson will co-anchor Newscenter5 Eyeopener newscasts on Saturday and Sunday morning with Doug Meehan. She will continue to report during the week.

“Rhondella is a highly-regarded journalist who’s been a tremendous asset to the NewsCenter 5 team for over two decades,” said Bill Fine. “She knows the market inside and out, and whether anchoring or reporting, Rhondella goes the extra mile to tell the stories that matter most to the viewers.”

According to a release, Richardson succeeds Shayna Seymour who has been promoted to co-anchor of Chronicle, WCVB’s nightly news magazine.

Richardson is an Emmy nominated reporter who joined the Hearst-owned ABC affiliate in 1996 as a general assignment reporter. Over the course of her career, she has covered both Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama during their Martha’s Vineyard vacations; and she helped lead coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings, the September 11th terrorist attacks, and Boston archdiocese’s sex abuse scandal.

She will begin June 3rd.
