Boston Fox-Affiliate Drops Chopper Reporter

The latest on-air casualty over at Fox 25 is the morning show’s Doug Meehan, the Hub’s first full-time helicopter reporter and now its last.

Meehan said the station is eliminating his position and isn’t renewing his contract when it expires next week. The station may use him on a freelance basis.

A spokeswoman for WFXT-TV (Ch. 25) confirmed that Meehan’s contract has not been renewed.

“They are really an extended family and it just hurts,” Meehan said of the morning crew. “I miss being up in the helicopter.”

The affable traffic and entertainment reporter has been grounded since the station began sharing a chopper with WBZ-TV (Ch. 4) as a cost-cutting measure in June.

“I’m a victim of the economy,” said Meehan, 45, who was part of the original team when Fox 25s morning show debuted in 2003. More…
