Asiana Airlines Considers Legal Action Against KTVU, NTSB

Asiana Airlines is considering legal action against KTVU and the NTSB after the San Francisco Fox affiliate reported fake names for the pilots involved in the Flight 214 crash including “Sum Ting Wong” and “Wi Tu Lo.”

“Regarding the KTVU-TV’s demeaning report of the pilots on July 12, ASIANA Airlines is reviewing possible legal action against KTVU-TV and the NTSB,” the airline said in a statement, according to CNN. “The reputation of the four pilots and of the company had been seriously damaged by this report. The company is reviewing taking legal action against both KTVU-TV and the NTSB.”

It is not clear how KTVU originally got the names. The NTSB admitted Friday night to confirming the false names, saying a summer intern “acted outside the scope of his authority.” In an apology for the report, KTVU said they did not ask the person they spoke with at the NTSB “to give us their position with the agency.”
