Before Diane Sawyer confirmed on Monday morning that this week would be her last on “Good Morning America,” there was speculation online that “GMA” anchor, and contender for Sawyer’s job, Chris Cuomo was resigning from ABC. According to a report from RadarOnline, Cuomo, who has been with “GMA” since 2006, sent an email to the company, tendering his resignation.

Radar Online’s resignation report was quickly contradicted by a post from TVNewser in which the TV news industry blog quoted ABC News spokesperson Jeffrey Schneider as saying, “I just got off the phone with Chris who told me, ‘nothing could be further from the truth.'”

Fortifying Schneider’s assertion, Cuomo appeared on Monday’s “GMA” broadcast in his regular anchor seat. As Sawyer announced her imminent departure from the show, Cuomo said, “It is amazing what we’ve seen you be able to do.”

Despite the fact that the Cuomo resignation rumors appear to be untrue, significant change is certainly coming to ABC. There were reports late last week that George Stephanopoulos, who is widely seen as the favorite to replace Sawyer, was in the late stages of negotiating a move to “GMA.” On Monday morning, Cuomo tweeted, “Change is coming. I invite it, honestly. All is good. Will tell more soon.”
