WRGT morning news anchor Meghan Mongillo was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. After being off air while undergoing treatment, she opened up to viewers on the station’s website about her absence by saying, “I’m battling breast cancer and winning.”
Since I’m young and my cancer is 100% estrogen-driven my doctors recommended a bi-lateral mastectomy. Without hesitation, I agreed. So right now I am recovering from a double mastectomy and reconstruction. It’s a process that’ll take a few months.
Mongillo said she’ll be back on-air on Monday and also urged women to do regular breast exams. “If you feel a lump get it checked out. But here’s the tricky part, get it “thoroughly” checked-out. Because at first, I didn’t.”
