After 22 years with WWMT, anchor Judy Markee has decided to say Goodbye to the CBS-affiliate. Markee announced on Tuesday that she will not renew her current contract, which expires at the end of May.
“I have been thinking about this for some time,” Markee said about stepping away. Her husband recently retired and she said that she’s been considering leaving WWMT, which serves western Michigan, for the past year.
“It is not an easy decision for me to leave, however 22 years in one place is a long time so I felt it is the right time for a change,” she said. “The time demands of this business and my schedule of working daily until midnight has made it difficult to get away for meaningful periods of time. So my husband and I intend to spend the next year traveling.”
Markee is currently the main anchor of WWMT’s 5, 5:30, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts.
“Judy has been an important member of our News team for 22 years. While her reporting has won her numerous awards, her major contribution has been her leadership on a daily basis in shaping our newscasts,” said Jim Lutton, WWMT’s vice president and general manager. “She will be greatly missed by everyone at the station.”
Markee’s final day is set for May 27th.
