KTRK Anchor Dave Ward Suffers Fall Minutes Before Friday, the 13th Newscast

Longtime KTRK anchor Dave Ward seemed to disappear from the ABC-affiliate’s 10 p.m. newscast on Friday, the 13th.

As Houston blogger Mike McGuff points out, Ward appeared in news teases during primetime on Friday but was missing from KTRK’s actual 10 p.m. newscast, which Melanie Lawson anchored solo from the station’s newsroom.

It turns out that Ward suffered a fall minutes before the newscast and KTRK had to press on without him, according to a statement released by the station on Monday.

“He tells us he’s already out of bed and the doctors have him walking around,” the statement reads.  “Dave plans on getting back in his chair at the news desk as soon as he gets the medical OK, which could be no more than a few weeks.”

Sources indicate that Ward’s fall occurred as he entered the KTRK studio, forcing the station to shift its 10 p.m. newscast to the newsroom as Ward was attended to by medical workers.

Ward joined KTRK in 1966 and has been anchoring the station’s weekday 6 and 10 p.m newscasts since 1968.
