Anchor Brien Blakely was charged with assault this morning in connection to the newsroom brawl that occurred last Tuesday.
Blakely’s opponent in the fracas, producer Edward Boyce Jr., was charged on Monday. Both men posted $300 bond and were released.
Blakely and Boyce were interviewed by Charlotte police last week and the investigation has offered more details about the fight, which occurred a couple of hours before WCCB‘s 10 p.m. newscast.
According to the Charlotte Observer, Blakely and Boyce were called into a supervisor’s office on Tuesday evening. The resulting meeting, which was meant to ease tensions between the anchor and producer, led to the physical altercation.
Following the fight, Blakely said that he was “protecting the honor and integrity” of the station.
Both men were let go by the station last week.
