American Spirit Media Announces Spectrum Auction Results

American Spirit Media says its Richmond CW affiliate WUPV will take a lower position in the TV spectrum after participating in the FCC’s auction.

“American Spirit took the opportunity to strategically create value for the company without impacting its mission to serve our local viewers,” American Spirit said in a statement. “That strategy resulted in American Spirit Media exchanging channel 47 in the Richmond, Virginia, market for a lower channel position in the television spectrum.”

American Spirit was founded by Thomas B. Henson in 2003. WUPV is operated by Raycom Media through a shared services agreement with NBC affiliate WWBT.

WUPV will move to another channel in the next 36 months, though the release doesn’t specify which one.

“Richmond area viewers will still receive the full complement of news, entertainment and sports programming WUPV The CW Richmond currently broadcasts,” says the release.
