Young Broadcasting has appointed Andy Alford as general manager of WTEN in Albany. Alford was introduced to staff of the ABC-affiliate on Monday. He succeeds interim GM Michael Sechrist, who has served in that role since December, 2009.
“Andy is an exceptional leader with a solid sales background and will be a great addition to our team in Albany,” said Young Broadcasting president Deborah A. McDermott.
Alford comes to market #58 after a 4-year stint as vice president and GM of Atlanta’s WGCL. Before being promoted to VP-GM, Alford served as WGCL’s station manager and general sales manager.
For Alford, the move to WTEN is a return to his roots of sorts. He got his first big break in New York as local sales manager for Rochester’s WHEC. He then accepted a position as general sales manager for Syracuse’s WTVH.
Alford resigned from his post at WGCL in August of 2009.
