Albany Station Runs Old News During NFL Halftime Report

By Kevin Eck

Viewers of Albany New York’s WXXA who were watching the game between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys got some surprising and confusing news during the local FOX affiliate’s halftime report.

After January Keaton started off the cut-in with breaking news of a small plane crash, she then told viewers it was a beautiful day to take a stroll.

Weather.com listed Albany, NY, as having a high of 26 degrees with wind gusts reaching 42 mph on Sunday. But meteorologist Andy Gregorio agreed with Keaton saying, “A beautiful evening out there. Clear skies, temperatures will be falling through the 60s. Currently we’re close to 70 right now.”

According to the Albany Times Union, the station accidentally ran tape of a news update from September. “We have egg on our face,” an employee at WTEN who asked not to be identified told the Times Union. “Our phones are ringing off the hook.” WTEN operates WXXA through a shared services agreement.

The report also left officials at the nearby airport scrambling to identify the plane that had reportedly crashed. “We called the Saratoga County Sheriff’s department for a location, and they told us it was an apparent mistake by the television station,” said Doug Myers, spokesman for Albany International Airport.

TVSpy has asked WXXA for comment. We will update when we hear back.
