Alaska CBS Affiliate Debuts New Station

By Kevin Eck

After starting work last January, Anchorage, AK, CBS affiliate KTVA has debuted its new station.

“It’s more than a testament to modern engineering it really is a promise kept by the new owners to take KTVA to an entirely new level,” said John Tracy, consultant for parent company GCI. “In the end, it’s going to be good for journalism, it’s going to be good for competition and it’s going to be good for Alaskans.”

According to the station, new owners Denali Media doubled the staff to occupy the 17,000 square feet of office space on the second floor of the East Anchorage building housing the Anchorage Daily News.

The building also features a 3,000 square foot studio that was custom made by Devlin Design Group.

The building houses more than 100 computers, close to 300 HD monitors and 46 high-definition cameras. Seventeen are for the field and nine are for the studio, all of them robotic. It’s technology that makes it possible to run up to three separate television stations at a time, and to deliver a new kind of KTVA news in high definition.

KTVA was recently bought by Denali Media. Click here to watch the station’s video.
