After 67 Years Adam Young, Inc. to Cease Operations

By Chris Ariens

Adam Young, Inc., the television representation firm founded in 1944, and the cornerstone of what would become TV ownership group, Young Broadcasting, will cease operations at the end of the month.

“This marks the end of an era,” said Vincent Young, chairman of Young Broadcasting and son of founder Adam Young. “The wonderful sales and support teams have effectually carried out my father’s original, ground-breaking vision of exclusive representation over these many years.”

National sales for Young’s 10 television stations will now be handled by Cox Reps. Young Broadcasting, which emerged from 16 months of bankruptcy last June, owns KRON-TV in San Francisco, WKRN-TV in Nashville, WTEN in Albany, WRIC in Richmond, WATE-TV in Knoxville, WBAY in Green Bay, WLNS in Lansing, KLFY-TV in Lafayette, LA, KELO-TV in Sioux Falls, SD and KWQC-TV in Davenport, IA.

Only KRON, WATE and WLNS are managed by Young, the other 7 stations are operated by Gray Television in a deal worked out by the banks that own Young Broadcasting.
