He’s been KETV‘s assistant news director for 18 years.

On March 1, Vonn Jones will become the news director of the Hearst owned ABC affiliate in Omaha.

Jones will replace Rose Ann Shannon. Shannon recently announced her retirement after 31 years. She spent the last 25 serving as the station’s news director.

“Vonn has been instrumental in contributing to our overall commitment to news as well as to our strong connection to the Omaha community,” said Ariel Roblin, KETV president and general manager.

Jones has spent the majority of career in the KETV newsroom. He started as an intern, left to take a job in Milwaukee before returning to Omaha. Upon his return, Jones started as a reporter before transitioning into a producer and eventually the assistant news director.

“I couldn’t be more proud or excited to lead our talented team into a new and exciting era.’ Jones said. ‘We will continue to work to prove to viewers why we are Omaha’s News Leader.”
