Burbank, CA (August 19, 2013) – NBC4 Southern California announced today that Adrian Arambulo and Gadi Schwartz have joined the station. Arambulo will co-anchor the weekend edition of ‘Today in L.A.,’ and serve as a general assignment reporter, while Schwartz will serve as a weekly general assignment reporter for NBC4 News at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Arambulo comes to NBC4 after spending six years at KDFW-TV, the FOX station in Dallas-Fort Worth, where he served as a weekend morning anchor and reporter for the ‘Good Day’ morning show. Recognized for his in-depth coverage of breaking news, Arambulo has reported on a variety of news stories from Hurricane Ike and the Fort Hood shooting massacre, to more recently the murder of a Navy SEAL sniper by a fellow veteran, and the aftermath of the massive fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas.

Starting on August 31, Arambulo steps in as weekend co-anchor, while Ted Chen continues at the station as a full-time weekday general assignment reporter.

Schwartz joins NBC4 after spending nearly a decade at KOB-TV, the NBC affiliate in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  There, he served as the station’s weekend co-anchor and managing investigator for the “4 On Your Side” Investigative Unit. He is credited with breaking some of the most important and memorable investigative stories in New Mexico’s recent past, including an expose into a Public Regulation Commissioner’s embezzlement of government money and prescription drug addiction.

Of Hispanic descent, Schwartz was born in Guatemala City, and moved with his family to Belen, New Mexico, and later to Albuquerque. Fluent in Spanish, he spent a great deal of his childhood shadowing his father, Sergio Schwartz, who reported for the Univision station in Albuquerque.

“Adrian and Gadi are two excellent journalists and we’re thrilled they have joined the news team,” said Todd Mokhtari, NBC4’s vice president of news. “They will join our talented group of reporters to bring viewers the best breaking news, in-depth coverage and meaningful stories that connect people in Southern California.”

In addition to adding several hours of news to the weekly lineup, the station has hired dozens of new newsroom personnel, has invested in its investigative unit and has a helicopter fully dedicated to its own coverage.  It also has launched two news franchises that are growing in popularity: Life Connected, a weekly segment that celebrates diversity and stories of community goodwill and human connection; and Ask Dr. Bruce, a semi-weekly segment in which NBC4’s Chief Health, Medical and Science Correspondent, Bruce Hensel, M.D., addresses viewer submitted health questions.

NBC4 also is leading in the social media landscape and extending itself to further engage with its audience. The station has the largest Facebook fan base in the local news television industry, with more than 570,000 ‘Likes,’ and a Twitter following that has increased more than 40 percent in the past year.
