ABC Unveils iPhone Alarm Clock App for Stations

By Andrew Gauthier

Now, when ABC O&Os tell viewers to “wake up with us,” they won’t necessarily be referring to watching their morning newscasts.

ABC is now rolling out an iPhone alarm clock app for its station group, beginning today with KTRK in Houston.  In addition to serving as an alarm clock, the free app features local weather and news, and also offers users the ability to wake up to the voice of their favorite local news personality.

Viewers in Houston can now wake up to the voices of KTRK’s morning team, including Tom Koch, Sharron Melton, Casey Curry, Don Nelson, as well as the station’s breaking news music.

ABC plans to roll out custom alarm clock apps for the rest of its stations in the next few weeks.  They will be available on both the iPhone and the iPod touch.

“This all-in-one alarm clock app represents the ABC Owned Television Stations Group’s commitment to provide our communities with the most up-to date news, weather and traffic information when they wake up and throughout the day,” Carla Carpenter, SVP of digital media for the station group, said in announcing the new app. “The alarm clock app is ideal for the growing numbers who turn to the small screens of an iPhone or an iPod touch first thing in the morning for news and information. This makes the trusted content gathered by our top-rated stations even more accessible to the people we serve.”

KTRK’s app is available on iTunes here.
