ABC Pulling the Plug On Live Well Network

By Kevin Eck

ABC_304ABC is pulling the plug on its Live Well Network.

Rebecca Campbell, president of ABC Owned Television Station Group, and Peggy Allen, VP of Live Well Network, sent staffers an email this morning saying, “We’re announcing today that, after careful consideration, we are going to discontinue operating the Live Well Network, effective mid-January, 2015.”

Live Well is a lifetstyle based “broadcast, online and wireless service for digital channels in the US.” It was launched in 2009. It is currently carried in 64% of the US with ABC owned stations making up 23% of that total.

Campbell said the decision was made to focus on local content and the “core local brands in the digital space.” You can read the email after the jump.

Here’s the text of the email:

Dear Colleagues:

I want to share some early news with you about the Live Well Network.  We’re announcing today that, after careful consideration, we are going to discontinue operating the Live Well Network, effective mid-January, 2015.

Despite Live Well’s tremendous accomplishments in distribution and original programming, we made a strategic decision that our priority must be local content, and we want to maximize our investment in our core local news brands in the digital space.

I want to personally thank all of you who have committed tremendous time and effort to the Live Well Network.  I’m extremely proud of what we accomplished together and grateful for all of your hard work and dedication throughout the years.

Sincerely,

Rebecca & Peg
