Abby Powell is set to join WNWO as a morning anchor.

A native of Ohio, Powell comes to the Toledo NBC-affiliate from KXII in Denison, TX, where she anchored the station’s a.m. newscast.

“Abby has a best friend quality about her.  You trust what she tells you and you want to spend time with her,” said Kathy Reynolds, Barrington Broadcasting’s regional news director, in announcing the hiring.  “I think she’s going to be a great leader in our newsroom.”

Powell’s first day at WNWO is set for June 25th.

Before joining KXII, Powell spent several years performing and singing in regional theater, theme parks, and U.S. touring shows.  She once had a role in an off-Broadway musical and spent time in Japan doing shows at Tokyo Disney.

“Abby is a vivacious personality,” WNWO president and CEO Chris Topf said.  “Not only does she have solid news judgment but she’s able to draw on some incredible life experiences that really enable her to add context to the stories she tells.”
