Aaron Bennett to Replace Dave Benton on WCIA

By Aneya Fernando

dave-benton-435Last September Dave Benton, an evening anchor at Champaign, Ill., CBS affiliate WCIA, told viewers that his brain cancer had returned.

Although the prognosis looked grim at the time, his health improved thanks to his cancer treatment, and he vowed to continue working as long as he could.

Well, Benton officially stepped down from the anchor chair a few weeks ago, and WCIA has just announced his successor: sports director Aaron Bennett.

WHO announced Benton’s replacement in a Facebook post on Monday, writing:

Aaron Bennett will move from the Sports Director chair into the anchor chair starting tonight, at least for the time being. Aaron has been part of the team for many years and is well respected as a journalist by his co-workers and our viewers.

You have been incredibly supportive through this tough time. Thank you for that and thank you for continuing to watch our newscasts.

Bennett has been with WCIA for the past nine years. He began his new gig as evening anchor on Monday night.
