’60 Minutes’ NYPD Shoot-down Report is News in New York

By Chris Ariens

“60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley reported on the NYPD’s counter-terrorism bureau last night in a profile of Police Commissioner Ray Kelly — whose son, Greg Kelly is the anchor of “Good Day New York.” The news from the “60 Minutes” piece: that the NYPD has the capability to take down a plane if it need be. All the local stations, as well as the network morning newscasts, reported the news this morning. Fox5’s “Good Day New York” only made faint mention of the father-son relationship:

Greg Kelly: We learned last night that the NYPD has the capability to shoot down an aircraft.

Rosanna Scotto: I had no idea. Did you?

Greg Kelly: I did not. I found out on “60 minutes” just like everyone else.

In a later segment, Kelly said he didn’t even make it home it time to watch his dad on “60 Minutes.” “I pulled over at a beauty parlor, I was so anxious to see this thing,” said Kelly. “I had to ask, ‘Could I see your TV?’ I was not going to be home at 7:00.”
