Zach Toback Returns to ABC News

By Chris Ariens

After a two-year run at NBC News as VP of News Operations, Zach Toback is returning to ABC News where he’d spent the previous 14 years.

At ABC, Toback will be Executive Director of Operations in New York. In a note to staff, obtained by TVNewser, ABC News president Ben Sherwood couldn’t help but tweak his competition (and former employer) about how Toback had been working on NBC News’s biggest show launch in years. “Zach’s most recent post was at NBC Universal where he worked in News Operations helping with NBC’s Rock Center with Brian Williams.”

More from Sherwood, after the jump…

I’m pleased to share exciting news that Zach Toback re-joins ABC News as Executive Director of Operations in New York.

Zach will work across all platforms and lead efforts to drive new technologies throughout ABC News.

Zach’s most recent post was at NBC Universal where he worked in News Operations helping with NBC’s Rock Center with Brian Williams.

Prior to a brief stint at NBC, Zach spent 14 years at ABC in a range of editorial and operations positions. He started here as a freelance coordinator at GMA and worked his way up to Executive Director of Production and Operations at our morning show.

Zach worked on many award-winning projects including coverage of the papal funeral of Pope John Paul II (DuPont Silver Baton) and coverage of the September 11 attacks (Peabody).

Here’s a little nugget that you may not know about Zach: He was one of the first contributors at ABCNews.com during the launch of our digital operation.
We’re all very fortunate that Zach is coming home, bringing his considerable talent, energy and team spirit.

Please join me in welcoming him and congratulating him on his important post.
