When Steve Capus left NBC News earlier this year after 20 years with the network, he was due some time away from news.
So for the last few months, Capus, who was president of NBC News for his last 8 years with the network, has turned his attention to music: specifically, a mission to get the British progressive rock band Yes into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
“I don’t want people to think I’ve completely lost my mind,” Capus tells the AP. “This isn’t my new career. I’ve got the luxury of some time on my hands and the ability to do some projects that I believe in and have some fun doing.”
Capus has been a Yes fan since seeing the group in concert in Philadelphia in 1979.
The campaign, a collaboration with fellow Yes fans, Republican consultant John Brabender and Democratic strategist Tad Devine, will include a film, produced by Capus, about why Yes should be in the Hall. Capus attended a “Yestival” in New Jersey and went to Cleveland with the band to conduct interviews.
Since leaving NBC in the spring, Capus has done some consulting work and plans to teach journalism and management.
