World News Tonight Back on Top in the Evenings

By Chris Ariens

The ping pong match for ratings between World News Tonight and Nightly News continues.

The ABC newscast took both total viewers and the A25-54 demo for the week of May 11 following two weeks of viewership wins by NBC Nightly News. Last week’s wins were by the slimmest of margins: ABC won the week in viewers with a 1 percent margin, while the win in A25-54 demo was by just .3 percent.

Compared to the same week last year the David Muir newscast saw the most viewer growth +4 percent, while the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley was also up: +2 percent. All three newscasts were down in the demo. Lester Holt‘s Nightly News was down -9 percent while ABC and CBS were down -10 percent.
