MSNBC will once again broadcast the Global Citizen Festival concert in Central Park in September. Alex Wagner will be back hosting the event this year joined by Willie Geist and Janet Mock. Last year’s event was co-hosted by Chris Hayes and Ronan Farrow.
Among those performing at the free, ticketed event: Pearl Jam, Beyonce, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay. The Festival, held Sept. 26, is timed to coincide with the launch of the United Nations’ new Global Goals to fight inequality, protect the planet and end extreme poverty by 2030.
At last year’s event, MSNBC president Phil Griffin told TVNewser the Festival “aligns with our values… I love it that we’re connecting with all these people. And I think it’s important that we lead in this space.”
