Forget all the blabber about the death of network news — Verne Gay lists ten reasons why “the ‘super-anchor,’ the Anchor God, the anchor-from-on-high…will remain a network TV fixture for many years to come.”

#4, “a calm voice in the crowd,” is very important. As ABC News senior VP Paul Slavin says, “The more [media] noise there is, the more important it is to differentiate what you can do, and there are only so many ways you can differentiate yourself in this media world. One of the primary ways is to have trusted [anchors] who embody the values of your news organization, and are a steady hand in times of crisis.”
