Why SEAL Team Six Member Went on ’60 Minutes’ Again

60 minWith a lead-in of the Denver Broncos-New England Patriots game “60 Minutes” was the No. 1 non-sports show last night, averaging 17.2 million viewers, according to Nielsen overnight ratings. It could be “60’s” most-watched program of the season when the final numbers come in tomorrow.

The hour included an interview with former Navy SEAL Mark Owen. It was his second sit-down with the program, during which he apologized for the first. Owen, a member of SEAL Team Six, neglected to tell the Pentagon he was publishing the book, “No Easy Day” about the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, or that he was going on “60 Minutes” to publicize it.

In a “60 Minutes Overtime” story, producer Henry Schuster explains that Owen — not his real name — agreed to a second interview with two goals in mind: he wanted to talk about his new book — which was vetted by the Pentagon — and he also wanted to tell his side of the story. “I believe that they’re [the Pentagon] trying to make an example out of Mark Owen,” Schuster says.
